| Maserati QP Sport GT
Could this possibly be one of the best-looking cars that $146,000 money can currently buy? If just for admiring from 10 paces, the 2007 Sport GT is worth every cent. These cars are still hand-built in Modena, so the niggles that I have about low-rent plastic fixtures and tainted attention to detail should be ignored. Maserati claim that 16 Quattroportes are built per day, so to expect Japanese-level quality control is a waste of your time. Yet the Italian manufacturer has recently invested more than $60m in the plant to address these imperfections. Each car is now meant to receive an extensive visual inspection and a few hours of drive time under their belt before they set sail. Or so they say. There must be a few stragglers that fall to the wayside, avoiding their multimillion-point test check, and an afternoon's jaunt around the Italian countryside.
Just say no to two-tiered TV
This week, in a government building in Gatineau, Que., our federal broadcasting regulator meets to hear arguments from broadcasters, filmmakers, actors, television producers, cable companies and other players in Canada's TV business. The issue is whether a major financier of Canadian TV programs such as Little Mosque on the Prairie, Corner Gas, The Border, Degrassi, The Guard and The Lens will be split into two separate funds one to produce programs broadcast on the public networks (CBC, SRC, TVO, Tele-Quebec, SCN and the other provincial educational services), and another for CTV, Global, Rogers and all the private networks and channels. Who cares and what does it matter? The regulator is not deciding how much money the Canadian Television Fund puts into these programs, but how it's done.
Man suing city files separate suit against county
Let's all say "politically motivated". It seems that more and more, kids of political patrons are more apt to file stupid suits like this because their parents can't get them off of these type of crimes, drinking, drugs, and the likes. If the judge were good, he would throw this out but we all know how this works, let the taxpayers give this idiot drunk more money so he can go out and kill someone the next time. .
What if the 'Surge' Works?
In one sense, this second grand Bush plan failure wouldn't be nearly as disastrous as the first--tens of thousands of people wouldn't die. In another sense, it would be worse. We can retreat from Iraq. We won't be able to retreat from the failure of immigration reform--no "surge" will save us--because it will change who "we" are. **--Worse than a Quebec problem, maybe. AV giants target eBay software fraud
Two of the world's largest antivirus software vendors are launching legal action against a group of software pirates selling illegal versions of well-known security software on eBay, as part of a major crackdown on software fraud on the auction site. The trade in illegal software on eBay is a booming industry and one the auction site has been reluctant to address, saying it is the role of the vendors to protect their intellectual property. Now McAfee and Symantec have decided to get tough on the pirates, throwing their considerable weight behind a Software and Information Industry Association (Siaa) campaign to clean up eBay. The Siaa is planning to ensnare criminals by buying software from eBay and suing those whose products turn out to be illegal. The initiative was kicked off with the announcement of legal proceedings against five US-based individuals who face claims for damages as well as court orders restricting them from committing their alleged crimes in the future.
