Ferrari roars ahead with a full order book

Piero Ferrari inherited the distinctive eyes of his late father, Enzo, but at least Piero radiates a sense of inner calm and happiness. Enzo was never seen without his sunglasses after the untimely death of his first son, Alfredo, also known as Dino, in 1956. Devastated, he famously wrote in his diary - using his trademark purple ink - "the match is lost". On a personal level, Enzo Ferrari endured much tragedy, but the company that bears his name is going from strength to strength.

In 1996, 3,351 Ferraris were sold worldwide, netting the company €486.6million in sales and an operating profit of €5.4million. According to figures released this week, last year there were 6,465 new car sales, turnover stood at €1.67billion (£1.24billion) and profits reached €266million, despite the fall in the value of the dollar - a currency in which a third of Ferrari's sales are made.

Anelka, who signed a new four-year deal with Bolton in August after joining for a club record of eight million pounds from Turkish club Fenerbahce, has scored 11 goals in 22 games this season.

The 28-year-old has also played for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premiership and won the Champions League while at Real Madrid.

California a good place for Kenseth to get back on track

After the way his season started, Matt Kenseth probably would like to race again as soon as possible.

Weather permitting, he will race again today, and he won't do it in just any old event. Today's race is the Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway (which changed its name from California Speedway on Friday), an event he won the last two times it has been held.

“It's one we certainly look forward to,” Kenseth said. “You look forward to trying to get some momentum back after our disappointing Daytona 500.”

Kenseth's run in last week's 500 was about as frustrating a way to start the Sprint Cup season as one could imagine. He started 28th but worked his way to the lead on lap 108. He stayed near the front of the field until lap 161.

That's when he got caught up in a wreck.
